Valentino Rossi, The Doctor is back!
“Winning is a great satisfaction, especially when it hasn’t happened in a long time. It could have been the right opportunity and winning here in Misano was special”
He answers all the questions of the journalists a few minutes after the triumph, and looks happy as we haven’t seen him in a while.
Valentino Rossi, a MotoGP icon in Italy as well as worldwide, looks beaming for a very good reason: he finally won after a challenging race and a long break from winning.
“It has been great, like 5 years ago, but this time I have always been upfront. And I have to thank Yamaha for this. Because winning is always good, but being able to do it in front of all my friends and family and the fan club guys has been exciting, almost moving.”
adds Rossi, who continues to talk about his experience: “You should never give up and you should never listen those people who are trying to put you down, saying that you are old, and that you will never be winning again…The most important thing is to keep on dreaming and to go back to the top. By being objective and keeping calm during the race because I have been close to winning so many times but in the last four occasions I ended up behind Marquez. I knew that time he wasn’t 100% it would have been my turn.”
The San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix is the 13th stop of the World Motorcycle Championship. The second time it takes place in Italy, after the Mugello Grand Prix. Both circuits are included in the itinerary of our Italy, Tuscany, Roma and MotoGp Tour, trip where we will discover the most beautiful spots of this country as well as taking advantage of the quiet days to see the MotoGp race live.
The Misano Autodrome has been designed in 1960 and has been part of the MotoGp circuits since 2007. Located in the Rimini Province, it is now dedicated to Marco Simoncelli, a young Italian pilot who died in a race in 2011.
In this circuit Valentino Rossi came back to the podium as the number 1. Rossi is 35 years old and is considered one of the best racers in the history of motorcycling, despite the fact his results in the last few years were not as good as they used to be up to 2009. During his pilot career he won 9 world titles and the first place in Misano had been his 107th victory as a professional pilot, beating Loris Capirossi’s record as the oldest pilot to win a MotoGp race, having scored 3000 points in 18 years of career. In 2013, after a negative experience with Ducati, he came back to Yamaha, the team he was with in his latest achievements.
As far as Valentino Rossi’s past with Ducati is concerned, the Italy, Tuscany, Roma and MotoGp Tour also features a day in Bologna where the group will be taken to the Borgo Panigale Museum, which is dedicated to this famous brand.
This year, thanks to his win in Misano, the situation changed. Valentino Rossi is third in the list with 214 points, Dani Pedrosa is second with 215 and Marc Marquez first with 289. The excitement of the last 5 races to go will be intense, as everything could change and favour Rossi, being 75 points behind Marquez.
Despite Rossi and Marquez being the bitterest enemies on the circuit and the protagonists of this year’s brawls, they seem to enjoy each other’s company outside the paddocks, given that Valentino invited the young world champion to train in his Motor Ranch VR|46 in Tavullia.
